DG’s friend and colleague at VCFA Nance Van Winckel has sent in two new photocollages to grace our pages. These are cross-genre, off-the-page, photo and graffiti mash-ups that push against the constrictions of conventional form in delightful ways and fit rather nicely in the Numéro Cinq aesthetic. Think of them as Not-Not Poems. Look at Nance’s web page for the latest news and links to online poems and stories. But also check out her Off The Page video from the summer residency and her Pho-toems by Nance Van Winckel video.

  1. These are terrific! I could ponder them all day. I love the conjunction of the texts, the solid/crumbling world and the images.

  2. These are wonderful, Nance. Like Kim, I just stare at them and let my mind wander. I suppose it’s not fair to ask and a moot point anyway, but I’d be curious to know what the original “real” image is, your starting point for your excursions.

    • Thanks for your good words and thoughts. With the train piece, I added the wormhole text and about half of the graphic material, and with the second piece, I added mainly the large graphic (which is itself a victorian collage) and my tag (roonie), but I loved the text that was already there on this wall: ROO ‘N BOO LOVE MORE THAN YOU. What a marvelous found poem that was/is!
