Driving back and forth to Canada, knocking about the farm and Port Dover, listing to Fred Eaglesmith CDs—all this made me think of Stan Rogers who once wrote a song about the fish plant in Port Dover (now for sale again) called “Tiny Fish for Japan” and that reminded me of “Northwest Passage,” our favourite driving song for years. …which reminds me of an online book vendor named Northwest Passages, which (sadly) passed away in December. They helped me find some things I couldn’t locate otherwise, one of which, if I recall correctly, was a book called “The Mad River and other Stories,” by some fellow with an H between his names.
