David Mamet’s Master Class Memo to the Writers of The Unit

  1. This memo has become VCFA lore. Its existence, and circulation by faculty, was mentioned to us newbies repeatedly by seasoned “upperclassmen!”. Can’t wait to read it.

    • Patrick in workshop gave me a hard copy, but then I found it on the internet. Looks quite helpful.

Glad to see you see your name on the blog.

  2. Completely brilliant. Akin to the feeling you walk away with after a nice dg workshop. 🙂

    Also, Sarah, welcome.

  3. Dominic Stansberry used this memo as a central theme of his and Taylor’s workshop (the “publication” workshop — I’d recommmend it if he does it again), and he used it primarily to review the first scene of each story. Useful stuff.

  4. This is great. Reminds me of someone else I know and heard from now and again last semester.
